
ABOUT CTE
Career and Technical Education (CTE) affords opportunities to ALL students interested in acquiring the academic, technical, and employability skills necessary to succeed in postsecondary education and/or high-demand careers.
Mission
To serve our schools and the greater community by designing quality CTE programs that meet the needs of Hawai'i’s labor workforce—inclusive of new pathways and programs of study, industry standards, work-based learning, industry-recognized certifications, early college opportunities, and professional development—as well as to ensure equity of access, and increase participation rates and successful outcomes.

A sustainable future in which Hawai`i graduates can live and thrive in-state by being prepared to succeed in high-skill, high-wage, and high-demand occupations.

EMPOWERING TOMORROW’S LEADERS

Career and Technical Education programs are designed to help students develop the technical, academic, employability and life skills needed for post-secondary education and high-skill careers. At the secondary level, schools shall offer programs of study that integrate academic and career and technical skills organized with career pathways.

Programs of study within each career pathway shall include a coherent sequence of courses based on industry driven career pathway standards. In the 2022-2023 school year Maui High School will offer 10 career programs of study.
Maui High School and the Board of Education is offering a Career and Technical Education Honors Recognition Certificate in addition to meeting the requirements for the Hawaii High School Diploma.
CTE Honor Grad

Students must meet the following with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and above:
Complete a two-course sequence in an approved CTE Program or Program of Study.
Earn a B or better in each course of the two-course sequence; and
Meet or exceed proficiency on a Performance-Based Assessment for the corresponding Program or Program of Study.

Students must complete one of the following written assessments for the corresponding program of study:
Earn at least 70% on each end-of-course assessment.
Earn a nationally-recognized certificate.
Earn a passing score on a Dual Credit Articulated Program of Study (DCAPS) assessment.

Student must meet or exceeded proficiency on a Performance-Based Assessment (PBA) for the program of study.
