STUDENT TESTIMONIAL

  • The Health Service Pathway allows students to understand the health science field through hands-on experiences, mentorships, certifications, and in-class assignments. The Health Service Pathway Capstone class gives the students the opportunity to incorporate the knowledge and skills obtained over the years of this course into their senior project. Our class was allowed to take a Community Health Worker (CHW) course with the University of Hawaii Maui College. I wasn't aware of what a community health worker was and how it related to health science, so I decided to make it into my senior project. Through mentorship, I learned more about Community Health Workers and their work. It was a fantastic experience to see how this one person could make a difference within our community, such as addressing racial disparities and discrimination by setting up fundraisers. This experience wouldn't be possible if it weren't for the Health Service Pathway Capstone class, which has provided me with the necessary resources and support to make it into my senior project. As I reflect, I can say that I have learned a lot from being a part of the Health Service Pathway, preparing me for life after high school. As for post-high school plans, I intend to study Psychology at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa to become a mental health professional here in Hawaii.
